# Sample 7z archives for testing extractors, free and CC0

1 7z test file of 1.4 KB. A direct URL, the file's SHA-256 and CC0, so curl and CI can fetch it with no signup and no keys.

The page: <https://loremfile.dev/7z>.

7z is the archive format people reach for when they want smaller files than zip produces, and
it is the one extractors are least likely to handle without a dedicated library. That makes it
worth testing explicitly rather than assuming your zip path covers it.

`7z/3-text-files.7z` holds three small Lorem Ipsum text files compressed with LZMA2, the
default the format is known for. It is deliberately small: the point is the container and its
compression method, not the payload. Entry timestamps are set to the project epoch, so the
archive is byte for byte the same on every build and its checksum is stable enough to use as a
fixture in your own tests.

Use it to check that an upload form accepts the type, that a virus scanner or extraction
service recognises it, and that your error handling is sane when a library is missing. For the
formats most tools do handle natively, see [ZIP](https://loremfile.dev/zip) and [TAR](https://loremfile.dev/tar).
