# Sample M4A audio files for testing, free, CC0 and hotlinkable

2 M4A test files from 247.1 KB to 486.9 KB. Direct URLs, a SHA-256 for each and CC0, so curl and CI can fetch them with no signup and no keys.

This is a sample M4A file: AAC audio in an MP4 container, free to hotlink or download.

| Path | Size | MIME | Properties |
|---|---|---|---|
| [`m4a/aac-30s.m4a`](https://loremfile.dev/m4a/aac-30s.m4a) | 486.9 KB (486,931 bytes) | `audio/mp4` | 30 s, aac, 48 kHz, 2 channels |

M4A is the file Apple devices produce and many streaming services deliver. Unlike a bare
ADTS stream, the container carries an index of the audio, so players can seek and show a
duration before reading the whole file.

`m4a/aac-30s.m4a` is a sine tone. The same kind of tone appears across the audio formats
here, which makes it easy to compare how one pipeline handles several containers and codecs.

`m4a/aac-64k-44k-30s.m4a` is the same kind of file at half the bitrate and at 44.1 kHz, for
code that must handle more than one sample rate or that estimates duration from bitrate.

Use them to test audio players and seeking, metadata readers, transcoders, and upload forms
that accept M4A. They also check MIME handling: they are served as `audio/mp4`, and code
that expects `audio/x-m4a`, or looks only at the extension, may reject it. Related formats:
